QUICK HITS:
♦ Hedy Goldsmith’s first cookbook hits the shelves today. Baking Out Loud will include those childhood favorites that Hedy features on the brunch menu at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink, including her take on pop tarts and nutter butters, her panini desserts and more. This Sunday, Hedy will sit down with the Miami Herald’s Lydia Martin for a Q&A at Books and Books in Coral Gables.
♦ Blue Collar is turning pink this month in an effort to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Certain menu items will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. As you can see from the neon sign above (which is usually blue), chef/owner Daniel Serfer has gone all out. The cause is very personal for Serfer, whose mother Marsha passed away from the disease ten years ago this month. There are a lot of reasons to support this great neighborhood restaurant, the great food, friendly staff, and reasonable prices among them. But this month there’s an extra reason, so be sure to support a great cause.
♦ Short Order reports that the iconic Ham and Eggery on 163rd Street in North Miami Beach is closing. The barn was hard to miss and first opened 47 years ago, which is the paleolithic era as far as Miami is concerned. It survived into the paleo diet era, but the owner is now looking to sell the building.
