QUICK HITS:
♦ This week, a couple of charitable events to highlight. First, the Mourning Family Foundation (formerly Alonzo Mourning Charities) is hosting a Wings and Wine event on February 20, 2013 at The Raleigh (UPDATE: It’s been canceled). Tickets are $250 per person. Spawn of Paula Deen, Bobby Deen, will be there, along with singer/actress Jill Scott. More information in the invitation above.
♦ Next up, literary journal The Miami Rail is hosting a fundraiser at 7:30 p.m. on February 21, 2013 at home of artist Christy Gast and anthropologist Melissa Memory. Only 20 seats are available and tickets are $100. There is talk of homemade shrimp gumbo and cornbread and you’ll also get a sneak preview of The Miami Rail’s Spring 2013 issue. More information and reservations available by emailing info@miamirail.org.
♦ Last week, Blue Collar hosted its Odd Couple dinner, pairing its chef/owner Daniel Serfer with visitor Bradley Kilgore, formerly of Azul (and other fine establishments both local and abroad). Both The Chowfather and Frodnesor posted recaps of the evening and declared the dinner-slash-competition a draw. Of course, we’re not afraid to declare one of these two fine chefs to be the winner. So, without further ado, we hereby cast our vote for winner of the Odd Couple dinner: Chef Danley Serfgore! Take a bow, chef.
