♦ It’s that time of year again. Common Threads, a charity we’ve written about previously on the blog, is hosting its annual World Festival event, where many of Miami’s best chefs (including Michelle Bernstein, Luis Pous, Joel Huff, Timon Balloo, Mark Zeitouni, and many more) serve tasty bites, cocktails are courtesy of Bar Lab, and personality Lee Schrager will be hosting the live auction. Last year’s event was well worth the price of admission and the lineup of chefs is stellar this year (disclaimer: I’m helping plan the event this year). Tickets are $150 per person. ♦ Short Order announced that Sam Gorenstein is leaving BLT Steak to get back together with Michael Schwartz. Gorenstein will be the Executive Chef at The Raleigh Hotel’s new restaurant, where Schwartz previously announced he’d be taking over food and beverage operations. The restaurant is expected to lean heavily towards seafood, a bit of a break form Gorenstein’s prior steakhouse gig (although some of the best items were his chalkboard specials, oftentimes skewing towards sea creatures rather than land creatures). Gorenstein had previously served as sous chef at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink, before he took a position heading the kitchen at BLT Steak.
♦ In a move back to brick-and-mortar, Andrew Kaplan, owner of popular food truck Cheeseme, is going to be the general manager of Phillippe at their new location in the former Taverna Opa spot South of Fifth. First task: picking up all of the napkins on the floor.
