QUICK HITS:
♦ Someone must have ordered the apple, because Eden is closed.
♦ Last Sunday night, Miami played host to Cochon 555, the hipster celebration of all things pork and bourbon. Five chefs competed, with Michelle Bernstein taking home the regional crown. She’ll travel to Aspen during their Food & Wine Festival in June to compete for the national title. The pork was flowing and there was even a tattoo artist tattooing a dead pig. Some things you just can’t unsee. Congrats to chef Bernstein and her crew, as well as the other competitors from Miami, Michael Schwartz and Aaron Brooks, as well as their teams. Here’s the lowdown from chef Schwartz’s blog.
♦ Opinionated About Dining is back in Miami and this time he had a more pleasant experience than his previous visit. Phew. The aptly named and extremely opinionated blogger visited Atlantico at the St. Regis Hotel in Bal Harbor and came away raving about the zarzuello, which he dubbed the best thing he ate this week.

I have actually been living in Miami Beach since December. I just haven’t been writing about my meals. Aside from places I have enjoyed in the past (Michy’s Michael’s, Joe’s etc.), other places I liked were Makoto, The Local (before the chef left) and La Cameronera (which is the bomb if you go on Friday or Saturday to have the Arroz con Pescado.) And the grand tasting of house made mozzerella cheese (I believe there are 5 different types) at Sardinia is superb.
