QUICK HITS:
♦ The well-financed Mare Nostrum lasted about as long as their first shipment of fresh fish. Short Order reports that the Mediterranean seafood spot on Brickell, which opened only a few months ago, has closed.
♦ Fratelli Lyon in the Design District may have lasted longer than Mare Nostrum, but it has met the same fate. The spot will reopen as MC Kitchen, helmed by chef Dena Marino, a concept we first learned about back in January. MC Kitchen is also Italian, as was Marino’s previous gig at Devito’s in South Beach.
♦ That music you hear in the distance is a game of musical chairs that chefs are playing on South Beach. After Sam Gorenstein left The Raleigh’s forthcoming Michael Schwartz project to focus on My Ceviche, The Raleigh announced that Daniel Ganem (formerly of Kane Steakhouse) would be filling the void. Meanwhile, BLT Steak announced that they’ve got a new chef de cuisine, with Matthew Oetting taking over for Mario Tolentino. Of course, this news is five days old, so BLT Steak might have a totally new chef by now.
