QUICK HITS:
♦ It’s not food or restaurant related, but a series of images have surfaced of the plans for the Design District, including a pedestrian-friendly mall. Obviously Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink can hold its own with the luxury shopping brands but hopefully some worthy new spots will join it, including MC Kitchen, which is under construction and will feature the Italian stylings of chef Dena Marino.
♦ Lorena Garcia, who I’m told is a TV personality and who apparently has a restaurant at Miami International Airport, has been hired to create an upscale Taco Bell menu, according to Short Order. Dubbed the “Cantina” menu, I can only hope it includes Dorito-encrusted snapper and a short rib chalupa.
♦ It’s not unusual for a Miami business to take the summer off. Heck, it’s hot out there. But Eater Miami reports that Coolhaus Miami, the ice cream sandwich food truck, is taking the summer off. An ice cream-based business taking the summer off? That’s when we needed you most. Not coolhaus. Not coolhaus at all.

Yeah, I went to the Coolhaus truck at a recent event and the truck was anything but cool. All of the ice creams on board were melting, along with the poor girl in the back of the truck with no A/C to cool her down. Cali summers are a little more temparate than the ones in MIA so maybe the trucks aren’t equipped to handle it. Then again, Manny’s ice cream truck that plays a warped version of Jingle Bell Rock while he strolls around Little Haiti at 0.5 mph seems to do OK.
