♦ I wouldn’t be a very good host if I didn’t invite you to the Chefs for Obama fundraiser at the Moore Building on September 18th. If you’re of that political persuasion, we’ve got a great lineup of chefs, including many of MRPR’s favorites: Michael Schwartz, Hedy Goldsmith, Kris Wessel, Dena Marino, Timon Balloo, and many others. Click on the image below for tickets.
♦ Eater Miami’s new editor posts her six most highly anticipated new restaurant and cocktail bar openings, including two Yardbird siblings (Swine and Khong River), the new bakery from the folks behind The Federal, the second coming of Broken Shaker, the Eataly-esque (Eatalian?) Cooper Avenue, and South Street, which is in the former Sra. Martinez spot. We’re looking forward to all of these.
♦ It’s usually difficult to get reservations at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink, but the week of September 17-23 it is going to be impossible. The restaurant is closing briefly for kitchen renovations. So get your fill of deviled eggs before the 17th, or forever hold your peace (for six days).
♦ Miami.com (and Lesley Abravanel) keep bringing the breaking restaurant news. This week brings word that Gastropod chef Jeremiah Bullfrog is taking the helm at the restaurant being unveiled at the Freehand (formerly the Indian Creek Hotel). The food and beverage operations are being run by Elad Zvi and Gabriel Orta of Bar Lab and the Broken Shaker. Keep an eye out for their extensive herb garden (which is inspired by this video from iNG Restaurant in Chicago). Also announced this week, Michael Bloise, formerly of American Noodle Bar and then Sushi Samba, is taking the role of Executive Sous Chef at Area 31, in the Epic Hotel in Downtown.
