Lately there have been a couple of rumors about big name out-of-town chefs that aren’t coming to Miami. I’m not sure how that’s news but far be it from me to not repeat it.
Apparently, there was a rumor that Mario Batali might open a place in the Eden Roc. But it ain’t happening, according to Short Order.
And have you heard the one about Iron Chef Morimoto opening up a place on South Beach? Me neither. But apparently that’s not happening either, according to Eater Miami.
And a random post on Chowhound claims that Jose Andres might open a spot with SLS, which owns the Ritz Plaza Hotel on South Beach. Andres opened The Bazaar in a Los Angeles hotel also run by SLS. So at least this doesn’t seem entirely far-fetched but obviously it is beyond a rumor at this point.
That’s the rundown for now. Strangely unsatisfying. Oh, and in export news, apparently Michael Schwartz is opening up a Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink in the Caymans.

Morimoto was rumored to be looking at that warehouse space lawwwwng ago (June 2008—http://blogs.herald.com/scene_in_the_tropics/2008/06/look-out-nobu.html)
….nothing came of it and then in November I heard a similar rumor of Morimoto opening, this time in downtown Miami (!), so I spoke w/his biz manager, Mark Stone, who told us not so much but he’d let me know! When I hear, I will be sure to spread the word!

Thanks Lesley. Who would you be more excited to have open up a spot in Miami — Morimoto or Jose Andres? Close call for me but I lean towards Morimoto.
Jose Andres. All of his restaurants in DC are bad ass.
