A couple of French heavyweights descended on the Arsht Center this evening, with Bourdain acting as moderator. It was interesting to watch a TV chef (Pepin) and a fine dining chef (Ripert) square off against one another, and their Quickfire-style cooking contest showcased their differences. I get the feeling Pepin cannot cook without talking at the same time, while Ripert doesn’t seem to be able to do both at once. Ripert’s dishes sure looked fancy, especially with a 30 minute time limit.
If you ever watched Top Chef and wanted desperately to taste what they were cooking, then I wouldn’t recommend the Celebrity Chef Series at the Arsht Center. Because now you can also smell the food but you still can’t taste it. Drats.
